Methanol is a simple saturated monobasic alcohol with CAS numbers 67-56-1 and 170082-17-4. It has a molecular weight of 32.04 and a boiling point of 64.7 ℃. Also known as "xylin" or "lignin". It is a colorless and volatile liquid with an alcohol odor. The low dose of population poisoning is about 100mg/kg body weight, and oral intake of 0.3-1g/kg can be fatal. Used for manufacturing formaldehyde and pesticides, and as an extractant for organic compounds and a denaturant for alcohol. Usually produced by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen gas.
